"Not quite as eco-friendly as it seems"
I do like using the bikes now and then, and they’re definitely convenient. But the whole setup doesn’t feel as green as it’s advertised to be. I keep seeing vans shuttling bikes around, and with the e-bikes and batteries, it makes me question how environmentally friendly it really is. I guess it’s still better than driving, but for the price and the way it’s run, it feels a bit wasteful. Not really worth more than 2 stars for me.

"Actually really handy for errands"
Bottom line, the basket ended up being way more useful than I expected. I used Capital Bikeshare to run a few errands, and the front basket fit my small grocery bag and backpack just fine. It didn’t wobble around much either, which was a nice surprise. Super convenient when I don’t feel like carrying everything on my back.

"Took a Day, But They Fixed It"
I had a problem with a ride charge, which was annoying because of course that’s exactly what you want to deal with after a ride. Support got back to me the next day and, thankfully, fixed it without making it a whole thing. It wasn’t exactly instant, but I guess in the world of customer support, that’s still decent. Overall, not a bad experience.

"Always there when I need a bike"
I’ve been using Capital Bikeshare often, and it’s been really dependable. The bikes unlock fast, the app almost never gives me trouble—and actually, the docks have been solid too whenever I’ve needed one. It just works when I need it to

"Paid fine, refund was a little slow"
Payment went through just fine, no issues there. The refund did take a bit longer than I expected, but it did come through in the end, so all good overal.
"Glad I Got the Membership"
I wasn’t sure I’d use the annual pass enough at first, but it didn’t take long to feel like a smart move. I’ve ended up going way more often than I thought I would.

"App keeps freezing"
I’ve been trying to use the app, but it keeps freezing on me again. It’ll work for a bit and then just lock up out of nowhere, which gets frustrating. I don’t know, it just felt...

"Honestly, better than I expected"
I’ve been using Capital Bikeshare often lately, and I have to admit, the bike availability has been surprisingly decent. I kind of expected to show up in the mornings and find an empty station half the time, especially when it’s busy, but there’s usually a bike at the station near me. And even when one dock is running low, there’s typically another one close by that still has bikes. It makes getting around a lot less stressful than I thought it would be. Not perfect, I’m sure, but so far I’m impressed. 5 stars from me.

"It’s not even about wanting a station…"
It’s not even about wanting a station right outside my door, there just never seems to be one close enough in my area to make it convenient. I usually end up having to go out of my way, which kind of defeats the purpose...

"Pretty convenient, honestly"
I use Capital Bikeshare more than I expected to, mostly because the bike lanes around DC actually connect well. It makes getting across town a lot easier without sitting in traffic, which I have to admit is nice. Some areas are still a little rough or awkward to ride through, but overall it’s been surprisingly handy and simple to use.

"Works, but the bikes can be rough"
I've used Capital Bikeshare a handful of times now. Some rides are totally fine. Others... not so much. The last bike I grabbed had these squeaky brakes the whole way, and the seat felt a little loose, which was kind of annoying. Still got me where I needed to go, so I can't complain too much. Just feels like they could check the bikes a bit more often.

"Checking the bike out was pretty…"
Checking the bike out was straightforward, but bringing it back was way more frustrating than it needed to be. The dock wouldn’t lock properly at first, so I had to pull the bike out and shove it back in a couple times before it finally clicked. The app was also moving really slowly, which didn’t help. It wasn’t a total disaster, but when you’re already in a hurry, those little delays feel extra stressful.

"The bike stations were definitely convenient once..."
The bike stations were definitely convenient once I got going, but I kind of regret not looking into the app setup before my trip. As a visitor, it was more confusing than I expected, and a few of the docks weren’t very clear to use. It worked out in the end, but it wasn’t as simple as I’d hoped.

"App problems ate up our sightseeing time"
We were visiting for the day and already trying to squeeze in a bunch of sightseeing, so this was really frustrating. The app kept glitching, the bikes wouldn’t unlock properly, and somehow we still ended up getting charged. Support took way too long to respond, and we spent a chunk of our limited trip standing around trying to fix it instead of actually enjoying the city.

"Kind of a hassle for commuting"
I wanted this to work better for my daily commute, but the dock locations can be annoying sometimes. It’s not unusable or anything, just not as convenient as I was hoping.

"Just didn’t trust it"
The brakes felt weak, and my brain went straight to, “soft brakes = not safe.” Maybe that’s a bit of a quick judgment, but once I noticed it, I couldn’t really relax on the bike. My confidence was low the whole ride.

"The bike worked fine overall and got..."
The bike worked fine overall and got the job done, but the seat started feeling hard after about 20 minutes. It wasn’t terrible, just not the most comfortable ride. Personally, I’d say it’s okay for short trips, but I wouldn’t choose it for anything longer.

"Good bikes, but they really need to get their act together"
I’ve used Capital Bikeshare a few times around DC, the bikes themselves are mostly fine. The handling is usually smooth, they feel steady enough, and turning through traffic hasn’t been a problem for me.
But it’s annoying that some of the older bikes feel heavy and the brakes are all over the place from one bike to the next. That’s on them for not keeping the fleet consistent, and it’s frustrating when you’re paying for a quick, easy ride and have to adjust to whatever random bike you got stuck with.
I still use it for short trips because it’s convenient, but they’re really the reason I can’t give it 5 stars. If they actually maintained the bikes so they all felt the same, this would be a much better experience.

"I tried two different e-bikes, and wow, neither…"
I tried two different e-bikes, and wow, neither one felt strong at all. The battery was dropping like it was in a countdown to disaster, the pedal assist kept cutting out at the worst moments, and one of them could barely drag itself up a tiny little hill. For the extra fee, it just wasn’t worth it for me

"Stations are always gross and nobody follows up"
The stations are almost always a mess. There’s trash everywhere, and the bike area smelled awful and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned or taken care of in ages. I’ve mentioned it before, but nobody ever follows up or seems to do anything about it, which makes it even more frustrating.
